What Is PLLA?

PLLA is not a typical dermal filler. Instead of using hyaluronic acid to plump up lips or fill wrinkles, Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) stimulates collagen production. This natural increase in collagen firms the skin, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face and rejuvenating skin and tissue in other areas.

Since PLLA injections do not add volumizing substances like hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite like other dermal fillers, results are not immediate. The injections stimulate collagen to be produced, but this occurs over the weeks following the treatment. The skin gradually becomes more youthful and softens lines or wrinkles. Most of our patients benefit from 2-3 treatments spaced at least a month apart to obtain the desired outcome. Results can last for two years or more – a yearly treatment can be used to maintain the collagen levels.

How Does PLLA Work?

Poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic material, stimulates your body’s natural collagen production. When injected strategically by a trained professional, Sculptra is gradually absorbed by the body, helping to rebuild lost collagen. This process involves a series of treatments that restore skin structure, support moisture retention, and maintain firmness.
